Chelsea target RB Leipzig’s Konate as Niklas Sule confirmed not to be #1 target

Sule not number one

Chelsea have been confirmed not to have Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule at the top of their transfer target list for the summer. Head of Football at German outlet BILD Christian Falk confirmed this was the case on social media.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now spoke out about the future of the German international defender who they now want to renew.

“We want the good German national team players at FC Bayern. Niklas still has one year of the contract,” he said to ZDF.

“We will hold talks and see where they’ll lead. We will look at the whole thing seriously & calmly by the summer.

“Corona (Covid-19 pandemic) has also caused financial damage to FC Bayern. If we find a solution, we are happy to extend the contract, but that will only be possible under certain conditions.”

Chelsea have Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori (currently on loan at AC Milan) all competing for places but still supposedly want to improve the position in the summer.

Konate joins the list

However, whilst one Bundesliga target may not be high up the list, supposedly another is that of RB Leipzig’s French defender Ibrahim Konate.

Falk reported on social media, ‘One interesting candidate on the shortlist of @ChelseaFC is Ibrahima Konaté (21)’

The Frenchman has partnered the Bayern-bound Dayot Upamecano and impressed alongside his compatriot.

New Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has not been afraid to make big decisions early in his reign. That was evident in his subbing of Callum Hudson Odoi despite bringing the England international on earlier in the match.

He will have no concerns ousting any of his defenders to upgrade this summer.
