Chelsea star Jorginho hints he was open to summer Arsenal switch

Jorginho has today hinted that he was not opposed to the idea of swapping Chelsea for London rivals Arsenal during the summer.

Partey arrives

The recently-closed transfer window saw a whole host of midfield stars linked with a move to the Emirates.

Chief among these, over lengthy stretches, were Lyon’s Houssem Aouar and Atletico Madrid standout Thomas Partey.

In the end, having proven frustrated in their pursuit of the former, Arsenal opted to bring in Ghanaian international Partey, to add some much-needed presence to Mikel Arteta’s ranks in the middle of the park.

And the 27-year-old has certainly not taken long in making his presence felt with the Gunners.

Partey’s full debut, during a Europa League meeting with Austrian giants Rapid Wien last night, saw the former Atletico Madrid man dazzle, en route to Man of the Match honours:

‘There was something…’

Had Arsenal failed in their attempts to land Partey, however, it had been suggested that the north Londoners were lining up a surprise swoop for a nearby fallback option.

The player in question? Jorginho.

And, as outlined above, if the latest comments on the part of the Chelsea man himself are anything to go by, then he does not appear to have been wholly against the idea of crossing the London divide.

Speaking during an interview with ESPN Brazil on Friday, Jorginho was drawn on his summer links to the Emirates, with the Italian international having explained:

‘I believe that every player is open to negotiations. So I believe there was something they talked about.’

Having since stayed put at Stamford Bridge, however, Jorginho was also keen to reiterate his commitment to the Chelsea cause:

‘In the end it was decided that I remain here. Now my head is here and we’re going to do a great job with Chelsea, which I always wanted to do.’
