As per a number of reliable outlets in the English media this evening, Chelsea are closing on the signing of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Ongoings at Stamford Bridge have of course proven one of the talking points of world football over recent weeks.
This comes with the Blues currently in the midst of a remarkable recruitment drive.
On the back of a pair of transfer windows without a single signing, Chelsea have already secured 6 high-profile additions ahead of the new season.
After clinching deals for both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner before the summer window had even officially opened, the last week of August saw all of Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva follow suit.
And, in the Londoners’ biggest summer outlay yet, the long-anticipated arrival of Kai Havertz was finally made official last Friday night.
The German prodigy put pen-to-paper on a 5-year deal at Stamford Bridge, in a deal worth a rumoured £70 million.
Whilst such reinforcements will, for obvious reasons, no doubt result in Chelsea proving a markedly improved side next season, one area which remains a major source of concern at Stamford Bridge comes between the posts.
On the back of a hugely underwhelming campaign on the part of current no.1 Kepa Arrizabalaga, the Blues, in turn, have been tipped to swoop for a whole host of shot-stoppers.
To this point, though, no such move has come to fruition.
But, as outlined above, if the latest word emerging in England over the last couple of hours is to be believed, then Chelsea’s goalkeeper search finally looks set to bear fruit, and soon.
As reported by the reliable Simon Johnson of the Athletic, Frank Lampard and co. ‘expect’ to make Edouard Mendy, of Ligue 1 outfit Rennes, the club’s next summer signing.
It is even suggested that a deal could be completed over the course of the coming days:

A further insight, meanwhile, has since been provided by Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella, with 28-year-old Senegalese international Mendy set to arrive in southwest London to provide competition for Kepa, rather than to replace the Spaniard:
Chelsea are confident in completing a deal for goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy.
The ball is in Rennes’ court but as reported last week, fee of around €20m/£18.2m being discussed. He would come in to compete with Kepa: https://t.co/VnAasnXdCd
