Brighton’s Neal Maupay suffered an absolute nightmare first-half vs Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
Brighton vs Liverpool
The Seagulls would welcome Liverpool to the Amex for the day’s early kick-off.
Liverpool headed into the tie looking to bounce back from their shock 2-0 loss at Anfield vs Atalanta in the Champions League earlier this week.
Brighton, meanwhile, were aiming to keep just their second clean sheet of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
Graham Potter’s men headed into the tie down in 16th place and despite Liverpool’s fairly weak starting eleven, most likely fancied the Reds to emerge from this tie with all three points.

Maupay’s nightmare afternoon
However, it would actually be the home outfit who had the first big chance of the day.
Neco Williams, who was in at right-back for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold, gave away a penalty just 20 minutes into the tie with the score at 0-0.
Neal Maupay, Brighton’s top scorer in the league with four this season, then stepped up to take the spot-kick.
However, the forward couldn’t even get his effort on target, blasting wide of Alisson’s post:

And if the afternoon couldn’t get any worse for Brighton and Maupay, the centre-forward would limp off injured just moments after missing his penalty:
