A major development surrounding the situation between the posts at Arsenal has emerged online this evening, ahead of the Gunners’ meeting with Fulham.
Mikel Arteta’s men are set to get the 2020/21 Premier League campaign underway in 2 days’ time.
The north Londoners will make the trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday morning, for the day’s early kick-off.
And though they have not taken to the pitch in a league outing since late July, Arsenal will no doubt head into proceedings brimming with confidence.
This comes with the Gunners having secured not one, but two pieces of silverware last month.
After first putting Chelsea to the sword in the FA Cup final, the capital giants followed up with an equally impressive Community Shield downing of Liverpool two weeks ago.
Leno in/Martinez out
Ahead of his side’s trip to Craven Cottage, though, one remaining headache for Mikel Arteta had long come in the form of his goalkeeping selection.
The stellar form of Emiliano Martinez over Arsenal’s season run-in last time out had of course since seen the undisputed status of Bernd Leno called into doubt.
This, in turn, meant that it remained altogether unclear just who was set to start between the posts for the visitors in southwest London on Saturday afternoon.
As outlined above, however, an update on the situation, and a major one at that, has this evening been forthcoming.
As first reported by Tom Kershaw of the Independent and since backed elsewhere, Arsenal have come to the decision to take advantage of Martinez’s explosion onto the scene by cashing in on the Argentine.
Martinez is therefore expected to join Aston Villa imminently, with negotiations between the clubs set to get back underway this weekend.
Significantly, it is even suggested that the gifted shot-stopper has already agreed on the personal terms of a 4-year contract at Villa Park:

These developments, evidently, will in turn see Bernd Leno return to starting duties for the Gunners versus Fulham.
