Bayern coaches and officials are desperate to prevent David Alaba moving to Liverpool

Fair and competitive

The injury to Virgil van Dijk has left Jurgen Klopp with a headache at the back and could look to strengthen in January. Schalke’s Ozan Kabak was previously linked but the Reds may be looking to a more established talent.

Bayern Munich and Austria defender David Alaba was developed at Bayern before breaking into the Bavarians’ first team. Since he has gone on to become one of Europe’s most versatile and consistent players. Operating at left-back, centre-half and defensive midfield. He has even played in attacking midfield for his national team.

“He should know what he has at Bayern,” said the German legend to Sky90. “The appreciation he enjoys in Munich cannot be greater anywhere – with those responsible, with the fans and with Bayern he plays centrally in central defence.”

Bayern have been trying to tie Alaba down to a new deal which expires in 2021. Bayern president Herbert Hainer has expressed that the offer they put to the Austrian was “a fair and competitive offer.”

Flick hopeful

Bayern coach Hansi Flick has had a huge impact since being appointed head coach and Alaba’s future is becoming the newest challenge facing the Champions League winning coach.

“Against Bielefeld, Atletico and Eintracht, Alaba is doing a good job,” Flick said. “I feel he’s the same as last season, very focused, loud on the pitch. He’s one of the players who leads our defence. For me, there’s no difference between now and last season.”

“I’m not concerning myself with that at all right now.” Flick said in regards to the January transfer market.

“I still hope he’ll sign with Bayern because I think he knows what the situation is like here in Munich. It’s a lot of fun to train with a team with a good atmosphere here. We play successful football and this club is one of the best in the world.”

“The conditions are top for every player right now and I think he’ll think twice about changing that.”

“It’s his decision – and we have to respect that, obviously – but I hope he will stay. He has to decide, my feeling is irrelevant.”
