Barcelona presidential candidate Laporta has transfer plan ready and wants Messi stay

Moves in place

If Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta is successfully voted in after the Club’s elections on the 15th March, then he already has a transfer plan in place, if the clubs finances allow it according to Marca.

Laporta, who was president between 2003-2010, is aware that the club’s financial state is far from ideal, with a reported debt of 1.173 billion euros. But that hasn’t stopped him laying out his intentions saying:

“I have all the cards ready to deal with these situations, it’s because of the experience and the knowledge I have of the people who could intervene in all these situations. I want to send a message of calm to the Barcelona fans.”

“We will be economically sustainable again and if we need to improve the sports teams, I have all the cards ready to be played.”

“I am convinced that the club will be financially sound in the short term,”

Messi’s Future

Speaking on the future of Messi, Laporta is determined to convince the club legend to stay, but recognises that there will be some lucrative offers elsewhere.

His comments towards potential suitors, PSG and Man City were slightly barbed, suggesting that:

“The competitors are state clubs and they have their own way of getting around Financial Fair Play”

Following their recent 4-1 defeat at home to PSG and with the club’s finances in a reported perilous state, if successful Laporta will face a challenging start to his tenureship and Messi will be only one problem to deal with.
