Aston Villa & Crystal Palace linked with Brentford’s Ollie Watkins

Several reports in England on Wednesday have linked Brentford’s Ollie Watkins with a move to the Premier League this summer.

Brentford standout

Watkins has spent the last three seasons plying his trade with Brentford after the Bees secured his services from lower-league outfit Exeter for just shy of £2m.

Said fee looks to have been a real bargain given how impressive the hitman has been since moving to Griffin Park, especially in the 2019/20 season.

Watkins netted 25 goals in 46 league outings this term as Brentford narrowly missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Brentford would then have a second shot at clinching a Premier League berth via the play-offs.

Brentford would put Swansea to the sword over two semi-final legs, during which Watkins scored once.

However, the Londoners then fell to defeat in the play-off final vs Fulham on Tuesday evening.

Aston Villa & Crystal Palace among clubs linked with Watkins

Now, as well as missing out on a place in England’s premier division, Brentford look set to part ways with their star forward.

As per a report from the Mirror on Wednesday, Brentford’s failure to secure top-flight football means Watkins now has a release clause of £18m – a pretty fair sum for such a quality goalscorer.

However, the Telegraph claim that Brentford will actually demand £25m for the forward.

But both reports do suggest that several Premier League sides appear to be keen on cashing on Watkins.

Crystal Palace are touted as an interested party by both of the above-linked reports whilst Aston Villa and Sheffield United are also named as potentially interested parties by the Telegraph.
