Arteta ‘fed up’ with William Saliba situation/ Luiz to return, Lacazette could start against & Spaniard’s lockdown message

Arteta’s latest information

Arsenal face Molde in the Europa League on Thursday and are facing a defensive rotation predicament. However, Arteta has confirmed that David Luiz is fit and ready for selection.

“He is available, he has been training well over the past few days so he will be involved in the squad,” the Spaniard said who was forced to draft in Rob Holding at Old Trafford after the 25-year-old had only one training session.

Hence, rotation ahead of the Premier League tie against Aston Villa is imperative. Holding will likely be rested alongside mainstay Gabriel. Were Luiz unfit, Shkodran Mustafi would have been the only fit central defender to come in. Therefore the Brazilian’s return will be welcome to Arteta.

On whether Lacazette could play Arteta was coy. “I am tempted with all of them with the way I see them train. But we will make that decision tomorrow.”

Lacazette has not scored since the away loss at Anfield and yet remains the Gunners top-scorer. Arteta could look to give the Frenchman the opportunity to gain momentum with the possibility of a goal against Molde.

With the UK entering a second lockdown, Arteta was also asked if he had a message for the Gunners fans. All still unable to watch their side in the flesh.

“I think that increases our responsibility to give them some happiness in these moments where people are suffering, and mentally it’s a really tough period to go through,” said Arteta.

“When we have the key of happiness, we have to make sure we give them that as much as we possibly can.”

“My message to them is that we will try our best all the time to bring that job. Even if it’s only for 96 minutes or whatever it is, as consistently as we possibly can.”

Saliba frustrations

Mikel Arteta was also once again asked about the situation with William Saliba. The Spaniard displayed frustration in the topic resurfacing again.

“I’m fed up with the situation because as you could see, we tried to find a way in the last few days [of the transfer window] to give him some football. I explained that he needed that transition year when we decided to buy him and send him on loan to Saint-Etienne. For many reasons, that didn’t happen and he didn’t have that transition year.”

“He needs to go through that and at the moment, with the amount of central defenders that we have in the team, we had to let him out of the squad which is painful. After that, we had some injuries and we could have used him but it’s part of this profession.”

The young Frenchman was left out of Arsenal’s Europa League squad, reports had suggested he was frustrated and could already be looking to move in search of more senior football. Arteta needs to manage the situation carefully. With such a highly-rated young player the risks are high. However, the possible rewards are strong in longevity, performance and financial value.
