Arsenal set to sign Gabriel on five-year deal – Telegraph

Fresh updates regarding Arsenal’s pursuit of Lille centre-back Gabriel have emerged online on Thursday.

Gabriel has two choices

First up, Lille president Gerard Lopez has been discussing the Brazilian during an interview with talkSPORT.

Gabriel’s impressive exploits over the last 18 months or so, have led to a number of high-profile clubs being named as interested in his signature. These include all of Manchester UnitedEvertonNapoli and Arsenal.

In recent weeks, though, two of those outfits appears to have taken the lead in the race for the stopper’s signature.

It was reported earlier this week that Arsenal had made a bid in the region of £22m for the centre-half.

And now, on Thursday, when speaking to talkSPORT, Lopez named the Gunners and Napoli as the two sides that are of high interest to Gabriel:

“I think he’s narrowed it down.

“I think it’s fair to say that Arsenal are a high interest to him, Napoli is a high interest to him.

“We’ve given him plenty of time to make up his mind. We’ve always said, ‘look if we have an agreement with two clubs or three clubs and the agreements are the same then we are not going to create a bidding competition’.

“It’s always fair. We always say ‘whenever we have the number that we want you are free to choose’.

“And that choice, I don’t think I’m giving up too much if I tell you that that choice is probably today or tomorrow.”

Arsenal agree five-year deal with Gabriel

And though the aforementioned comments suggest Arsenal could still yet miss out on the stopper to Napoli, another report from England on Thursday has handed the Londoners another boost.

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal will sign Gabriel for £22.6m, a fee that of course lines up with the report earlier in the week.

It is added that Arsenal agreed personal terms with the Lille man on Wednesday who is now set to sign a five-year deal.
