Arsenal reportedly interested in RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate

Arsenal on the up

There’s no denying that Mikel Arteta has had a positive impact at Arsenal.

The Spaniard, despite having zero prior managerial experience, has transformed the Gunners into one of the most well-drilled sides in the Premier League.

Arteta has also already guided his side to both FA Cup and Community Shield glory, whilst taking the scalps of some of the top managers in the game – Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

However, Arsenal are still by no means the finished article in several areas of the pitch.

Arsenal interest in Ibrahima Konate

And, if recent reports are to be believed, then the capital giants are seemingly aware there are still several areas in which they need to strengthen in order to return to their former glory.

The Gunners have recently been linked with Inter Milan and Italy midfielder Nicola Barella, who could well improve the north Londoner’s creativity in the middle of the park.

And now, on Thursday, reports from Germany have credited Arsenal with an interest in RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate.

Konate joined RB Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2017.

The 21-year-old Frenchman has since gone on to garner 79 appearances for Leipzig, including five this term.

And given he is right-footed, you would imagine Konate would be a perfect centre-back partner for Gabriel, whose impact on Arsenal’s backline has already been immense.

But outside of Gabriel, it is hard to make a case that Arsenal currently have any truly top-class central defenders – an issue the young Konate would no doubt help resolve.

However, Konate would likely set Arsenal back a premium fee, with German outlet Bild reporting that the stopper, who is of interest to Arsenal, has a €50m release clause.
