Arsenal loanee Konstantinos Mavropanos is back fit and playing for Stuttgart

Mavropanos returns

When Konstantinos Mavropanos tore his meniscus earlier in the season, it was feared the length of time out could be considerable. However, the Greek defender returned to the Stuttgart line-up just 6 weeks after having surgery.

This will prove a big boost Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Stuttgart team who were impressed with the Greek’s performances for Nurnberg last season and decided to pursue a loan deal.

“He is fully integrated and will also be an option for the squad,” said the American coach. “It’s possible that Mavropanos will be on the pitch and it’s possible that we’ll play a back-four. Both situations are conceivable.”

Mavropanos tweeted out after his side’s 3-1 home loss to German and European champions Bayern Munich that he was glad to be back.

Stuttgart took a surprise lead but goals from Kingsley Coman, Robert Lewandowski and Douglas Costa quickly turned the game as Bayern continued their push for yet another Bundesliga title.

Guendouzi in Germany

French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi followed Mavropanos to Germany. However his departure was more forceful than the Greek’s. After several difficult months at Arsenal, Hertha Berlin offered an escape to Guendouzi who’s relationship with Arteta had reached breaking point.

Speaking about his decision to leave he held nothing back in his assessment of his departure.

“I needed to have fun on the pitch, to regain confidence and that’s what Hertha offers me. It really is a choice I made,” the Gunners loanee said.

“In the space of two seasons I have played more than 80 games with Arsenal. When you play less, you start to think and it hurts”

It remains to be seen whether Guendouzi can return to Arsenal and fight for a place at the club. Lucas Torreira’s move to Atletico Madrid is equally as intriguing and both players could yet find a future in north London.
