Arsenal linked with Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella

Arsenal struggling for creativity

There’s no denying that Mikel Arteta has had a positive impact at Arsenal.

The Spaniard, despite having zero prior managerial experience, transformed the Gunners into one of the most well-drilled sides in the Premier League.

Arteta has also already guided them to an FA Cup and Community Shield whilst taking the scalps of some of the top managers in the game – Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

However, in Arteta’s attempts to organise a previously shambolic Arsenal backline, the Gunners have lost some of their cutting-edge attacking threat.

In fact, Arsenal haven’t scored a league goal from open playing since they beat Sheffield United at the beginning of October.

And with Mesut Ozil frozen out, the north Londoners don’t have any obvious creative sparks in their ranks.

Bukayo Saka has proven pretty decent at creating chances, though Arteta often deploys him as a left-wing-back.

Joe Willock has also shown promise in the Europa League. But Arteta seems somewhat reluctant to hand the midfielder a starting berth in the league.

As a result, it seems as though Arsenal may need to look to the transfer market in order to solve their creativity issues.

And if recent reports are to be believed, then Arsenal are at least assessing some potential transfer options.

FCInterNews (as cited by Goal), claim that Arsenal have joined the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool in monitoring Nicolo Barella, who has assisted four goals in 10 outings already this season.

However, given the 23-year-old is a regular future for both Inter and Italy, you would imagine he would set any potential suitor back a premium fee.
