Arsenal keen to keep Odegaard in 2021-22

Arteta praises Odegaard

Martin Odegaard has arrived at Arsenal and integrated into the scored exceptionally well. The Norwegian international has been an injection of creative quality that has been missing from the Arsenal side of late.

The Gunners experienced a torrid start to the season and were not saved from their creative void until the arrival of Emile Smith-Rowe into the first team. But the responsibility on such young shoulders was identified to be too much which led to Arsenal pursuing the Real Madrid midfielder in January.

“We have Martin for a few months and first of all we have to maximise this time with him to try to bring to the team all the qualities he has,” said Arteta

“At the end of the season we will sit together and decide where we can take that relationship forward. At the moment it doesn’t just depend on us.”

More than just creative quality, Mikel Arteta spoke about the leadership skills which the 22-year old possesses.

“He is a young leader. On the pitch he is showing a lot of character and a lot of intelligence. They are characteristics that a leader should have,” he said.

“He has been here a very short time but he has adapted very quickly. He is getting more and more respect from the players and the staff and his weight on the team will increase with every week.”

Odegaard could be crucial in helping Arsenal qualify for Europe.

Real angered by Odegaard admission

Despite all the positivity surrounding the midfielder there are some concerns from the Real Madrid camp of the words spoken publicly by Odegaard relating to a possible future deal to keep him at the Emirates.

Spanish outlet Defensa Central has claimed Real are not pleased with Odegaard publicly admitting the door could be open to a permanent stay at The Gunners.

“You never know what happens, but first of all my focus is about the rest of the season. Hopefully (I will) help the team, and then we’ll see what happens,” said Odegaard.

Odegaard spoke about how easy it had been for him to integrate into the Arsenal team.

“The way they took me into the team – my teammates – and how they treated me, as well as the manager and everyone in the club, they helped me since the first minute,” he said.

“I feel really comfortable and a part of the team, so it’s been easy to come in to this team because of the way they are and the way they treated me. I’m just really happy to be here and I’m proud to be a part of this team.”

There are still many months of the season remaining and much can change before the campaign’s end.
