Arsenal handed David Luiz boost ahead of Villareal

Arsenal have been handed a boost on the personnel front ahead of their Europa League meeting with Villareal on Thursday.

Villarreal vs Arsenal

The Europa League of course returns to our screens later this week.

The competition has reached the semi-final stage, with England still represented strongly.

Manchester United and Arsenal are left in the last four teams, alongside Villareal and AS Roma.

It is the Spanish outfit, though, who Arsenal have been drawn against as they look to book their spot in this season’s showpiece.

With Arsenal currently languishing around midtable in the Premier League, the Europa League now represents the Gunners’ only real shot at securing some form of European football this term.

However, Villarreal also currently find themselves outside of the European places in La Liga, with the tie of similar importance to them.

El Submarino Amarillo also have Europa League specialist and former Arsenal boss, Unai Emery, at the helm, with the Spaniard winning the competition three times with Sevilla and taking the north Londoners to the final in 2019.

Ahead of Thursday’s tie, Arsenal have been handed a boost on the personnel front.

David Luiz has missed the Gunners’ previous four Premier League ties and both EL quarter-final meetings with Slavia Prague.

However, the Evening Standard are reporting on Tuesday that the 34-year-old is now back in training after recovering from a knee issue which has seen him sidelined since March 21st.
