Arsenal’s midfield issues
It has become very clear this season Arsenal are in desperate need of reinforcing the quality of their midfield.
Newcomer Thomas Partey has faced injury problems that has kept him out for a large portion of the season. Whilst Granit Xhaka has spent recent weeks playing at left-back as cover for the injured Kieran Tierney.
With either of these two out, Mikel Arteta has had to deputise with one of Dani Ceballos or Mohamed Elneny taking one of the duo’s place.
The Egyptian has shown to be a safe option but provides little going forwards. Known for his passive style of play and disciplined positioning, the range of passing in comparison to the aforementioned starters is significantly restricted.
Ceballos has frustrated fans with a number of high-profile errors, in particular in the Europa League games against Benfica, Olympiacos and Villarreal.
It is reported the decision has been made for him to return to Real Madrid when his loan ends with no intentions to make the deal permanent.

Therefore the Gunners will need additional quality in the window and reports suggest they are confident of getting their main target.
Gunners ‘confident’ on Bissouma
One of the clear favourites amongst the Arsenal fan base and seemingly the club too is that of Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.
The midfielder has dominated plenty of performances for the Seagulls and appears to be a great compliment to whoever he partners.
The prospect of playing him and Thomas Partey together is certainly one which will excite many Gunners supporters.
101 produced an analytical piece detailing why it would be good for Arsenal to pursue a move for Bissouma back in December which you can read here.
Tactical Insight: Why Arsenal should look to Brighton’s Yves Bissouma this January transfer window.
Arsenal, for too long, have not committed to signings from within the Premier League & that must change. Bissouma is a great place to start.

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are confident of wrapping up a deal for the 24-year-old.
Brighton signed Bissouma from Lille for £15 million and would be expected to at least double their money for the midfielder.
Amid claims Arteta wants to pair Thomas Partey with Yves Bissouma, Arsenal fans express excitement at midfielder’s display vs Newcastle
