Arsenal vs Palace
The Gunners are set to return to action on Thursday, in a Premier League meeting with Roy Hodgson’s Eagles.
Mikel Arteta’s men will of course head into proceedings at the Emirates brimming with confidence, on the back of a major upturn in form of late.
Arsenal’s latest outing, on Saturday, saw the north Londoners down Newcastle in north London, to book their spot in the 4th-round of the FA Cup.
And this marked the club’s 4th-straight victory across all competitions, as Arteta and co. finally appear primed to kickstart their underwhelming season thus far.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, were ousted from the FA Cup by Wolves last Friday, amid an altogether hit-and-miss recent spell of form.
Roy Hodgson’s men actually secured all 3 points in their last Premier League outing, but this marked their only win from the club’s last 7 in all competitions.
As such, it looks a safe bet that hosts Arsenal will eventually emerge on the right side of the scoreline at the Emirates in 48 hours’ time.
And, as outlined above, ahead of their meeting with Palace, the Gunners have today been handed a further boost.
This comes in the form of a fitness update on a trio of the club’s stars.
First up is attacker Gabriel Martinelli, who was pulled from Mikel Arteta’s starting XI at the last minute over the weekend, after picking up an ankle problem during the warm-up.
The Brazilian, though, is progressing ‘very well’, ahead of a return to training over the coming days:
Right ankle. Gabi turned his right ankle during the warm-up against Newcastle United on Saturday and was subsequently taken out of the starting line-up.
Gabi has progressed very well and we’re hoping that he will return to full training with the squad in the next few days.
Next up was an update on Martinelli’s fellow countryman, Gabriel Magalhaes.
The stopper was forced into self isolation over the last couple of weeks, after returning a positive test for Covid-19.
He has since returned to first-team training, though, and will be available for selection versus Palace:
Gabriel is now back in full training and is available for selection for Thursday’s match.
Last, meanwhile, was an update on Thomas Partey.
Ghanaian international Partey has of course not taken to the pitch in over a month, since picking up a hamstring injury during a North London Derby defeat to Tottenham.
He was expected to return to the fray versus Newcastle at the weekend, but, in the end, was not risked.
And Arsenal’s latest release regarding their summer arrival also appeared somewhat non-committal, with the Gunners having failed to confirm whether or not Partey is in line to feature on Thursday:
Thomas is now back in full training with the squad after recovering from an injury to the left thigh. Thomas continues to regain full fitness and will be assessed ahead of Thursday’s match.
🗞 We’ve got positive news on Gabi’s injury!
