The representative of Leeds United goalkeeper Ilian Meslier has spoken out over his client’s future, hinting that he would not be surprised if one of European football’s heavyweights come sniffing around his signature over the years ahead.
Frenchman Meslier has been on the books at Elland Road since the summer of 2019.
The shot-stopper initially linked up with the Whites on loan from long-time club Lorient, and was initially viewed as little more than a backup to first-choice Kiko Casilla.
As the season progressed, however, Meslier’s talents began to shine through, eventually leaving Marcelo Bielsa with little choice but to hand the youngster a chance to impress on a consistent basis.
He subsequently went on to end the campaign as Leeds’ no.1, and has since only gone from strength to strength in the Premier League, after being snapped up on a permanent basis for a measly £5 million.
To this point in the season, Meslier, despite his tender years, has started in all but one of the club’s 26 league outings, keeping 8 clean sheets, and playing a key role in Leeds’ mid-table status.

In turn, on the day of his 21st birthday, Meslier’s agent was today drawn on his client’s fine form, and the potential interest in his signature which could, as a result, be forthcoming in the near future.
Speaking in an interview with the LUFC Fan Zone, Xavier Fleury began:
‘When you are so young, the youngest starting goalkeeper in Europe, for sure big clubs could be interested, following him.’
Fleury was then keen to stress that, whilst Meslier remains fully committed to the project at Elland Road as things stand, should one of European football’s heavyweights come calling, the situation could change:
‘Illan is starting at Leeds. He loves the club. Perhaps in one, two seasons, if you have a club like Real Madrid that knock on the door – who knows?’
The Leeds star’s representative continued:
‘If Leeds keep the manager and Orta, the president could be right, they could be in the Champions League.’
‘If Leeds are in the Champions League, Illan can win a title with Leeds – winning a title with Leeds is more beautiful than with Juventus, Real Madrid or Bayern.’
‘Right now, it would be a bad idea to join a big club, and sit on the bench.’
