A pint & a bag of crisps: Sean Dyche responds to Nick Pope’s Tottenham links

Tottenham linked with Pope

According to a recent report the Daily Mail, Tottenham have made Burnley’s Nick Pope their first-choice target, should Hugo Lloris leave in the summer.

The 34-year-old’s current contract will run out in the summer of 2022.

So, unless he signs fresh terms, Spurs will likely have to sell the World Cup winner this summer, if they hope to secure a fee.

PSG are said to be keen on Lloris, where one-time Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is of course now at the helm.

In terms of a potential fee for Pope, the Mail claim that the shot-stopper is valued at around £30m:

Dyche responds to Tottenham’s reported interest in Pope

Pope has been absolutely essential to Burnley’s ability to stay in the Premier League over recent years.

2019/20 saw him keep an impressive 15 clean sheets in 38 league outings, missing out on the Golden Glove by just one clean sheet.

2020/21, despite Burnley’s struggles, has once again saw Pope impress, managing nine shutouts already this season.

So, all involved at Burnley would no doubt love to hang on to Pope for as long as possible.

And when quizzed on Pope’s Tottenham links recently, Sean Dyche opted to gave an unserious response, suggesting he may trade Pope for a pint and some crisps at the moment:

“If they offered a bag of crisps and a pint of lager, the way things are going, I might actually take it.

“If someone can find a way of changing the rules of the country to get me a pint and a bag of a crisps, I’d have to try and hang on to Popey best I could.”
