A Liverpool player has tested positive for Covid-19 in Austria

Liverpool are in Austria

Premier League champions Liverpool are currently in Austria for a pre-season training camp.

Liverpool had originally scheduled to have this camp in Evian, France. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side changed their plans to Austria after an uptick in coronavirus cases in France.

On Tuesday, Austrian paper Kronen Zeitung confirmed that one Liverpool employee has tested positive for Covid-19.

Liverpool have a positive Covid-19 case

Kronen Zeitung didn’t specify whether the positive Covid-19 case was turned up by a footballer, a member of Jurgen Klopp’s coaching staff or someone else.

However, according to the Mirror’s David Maddock, one of Liverpool’s players contracted the virus.

While confirming that Liverpool will continue their training camp in Austria, readers were told:

Liverpool will continue with their Austrian training camp – despite reports a player has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Officials at the club have maintained a firm silence on the suggestion in the Austrian media, but it is understood a single member of the travelling squad had a positive test during the regular screening they have undertaken since arriving in the country on Saturday.

Have Liverpool confirmed the Covid-19 case?

No, not yet.

The Mirror report that Liverpool are waiting for the results of a second coronavirus test before making a statement on the issue. David Maddock wrote:

One test has proved positive, but a follow-up test will be conducted to rule out a false positive, before a case is confirmed.

If Liverpool do confirm the Covid-19 case, the club are unlikely to reveal the name of the infected player as that information is private.
